It is so easy for us to withhold forgiveness from someone who has harmed us in someway. We want to hold on to it as if it were a trophy of our battle with them. What we do not realize is that not forgiving someone is not in our best interest.
It changes who we are as a person. It drains us of our power to go on with our lives. Often it will grow until it causes us to become physically ill and spiritually separated from God. Jesus taught us that we are to forgive others as God has forgiven us. He said this not to weaken us but to strengthen us. God’s power only operates in a person who is not holding on to hate or bitterness . God’s power will only operate through a person who has let go of all ill will towards someone who has done them wrong. God wants you to be happy and healthy and spiritually free to let him use you to help others. If you are spiritually bound then you are restricting what God can do through you.
It is often easier to hold on to old hurts than to let go of them but once you do then you will be free to have the wonderful and blessed life that God wants you to have and enjoy. If you can not release your bitter feelings toward someone on your own then ask God to help you and he will. Ask God to free you from all past hurts in Jesus name and see all of the good things that will happen to you.
